D4GP40ReviewedD-xylonate dehydratase Haloferax volcanii (strain ATCC 29605 / DSM 3757 / JCM 8879 / NBRC 14742 / NCIMB 2012 / VKM B-1768 / DS2) (Halobacterium volcanii).27297879Key Enzymes of the Semiphosphorylative Entner-Doudoroff Pathway in the Haloarchaeon Haloferax volcanii: Characterization of Glucose Dehydrogenase, Gluconate Dehydratase, and 2-Keto-3-Deoxy-6-Phosphogluconate Aldolase.[Function][Pathology & Biotech]Protein/gene_name: XAD; Xylonate dehydratase; HVO_B0038A.
Function: Catalyzes the dehydration of xylonate to 2-dehydro-3-deoxy-D-arabinonate.
Additional Annotation: Catalyzes the dehydration of xylonate and gluconate at similar efficiencies (data from PMID:19584053). XAD allows the growth of a GAD deletion mutant on glucose, but the initial lag phase was 150 hours. The GAD/XAD double-deletion mutant does not grow on glucose.
