Function: It is a key mRNA transporting protein, mediating the mRNA transport to the growing tip of the cell.
Additional Annotation: It has three RRM domains at the N terminal and three MLLE domains at the C terminal. These three MLLE domains make a binding platform that facilitates multiple protein-protein interactions. Rrm4 is tethered to the cytoplasmic surface of the endosomes by interacting with the adaptor protein Upa1. Third MLLE domain of Rrm4 interacts with the PAM2L1 and PAM2L2 motifs present in the Upa1. Loss of this interaction leads to severe growth defects and bipolar growth phenotype. Loss of MLLE2 leads to aberrant accumulation of Rrm4 on the microtubule cytoskeleton.
