The community submission system is meant to harness scientific knowledge via crowdsourcing of the literature, enabling researchers to add valuable information to protein entries in UniProt, with a fast turnaround and proper acknowledgement.

In this way researchers can play an active role in improving the database and help scale up curation, supporting the entire research ecosystem and they can cite and get recognition for their biocuration work.


Overview of the submission process
  • From a protein entry: 1a. Find entry to add publication of interest; 2a. Select "Add a publication"; 3. Log in with ORCID; 4a. Fill in submission form with information from publication.
  • From a list of publications and proteins: 1b. Generate file; 2b. Go to "Batch submission"; 3. Log in with ORCID; 4b. Upload the file.
  • In both cases, 5. Submission is reviewed. 6. After approval, your annotation can be accessed from the UniProt entry and the tracking page; 7. The publication is integrated into the UniProt bibliography in upcoming release.

  • Add a publication to a UniProt entry

    Go to the UniProt entry of interest and click on "Add a publication" example link

    Go to the submission page and enter UniProt accession

    1. Enter UniProtKB Accession
    2. Sign in with ORCID
    3. Fill in submission form (Preview sample form)
    4. Submit

  • Submit a set of publications and entries

    Go to batch submission page and upload a file

    Go to the submission page and enter UniProt accession

    Only a few steps

    1. Download the excel template
    2. Sign in with ORCID
    3. Upload file and leave a valid contact email
    4. Submit

All submissions can be accessed and queried from the tracking page, which provides:

  1. Links to help documents and stats
  2. Login to view personal submissions
  3. Table with submission content
  4. Query capabilities with Boolean search
  5. Customizable display of columns in table
  6. Download of results in tab delimited format
  7. Link to submission page

The contributors page displays the submissions of the contributor.

As a contributor, you can point to this page to show or cite your contributions to UniProt.

The UniProt Bibliography Submission Page is collecting your ORCID iD so we can verify your submission is not a spam.
When you click the "Authorize" button, we will ask you to share your iD using an authenticated process: either by registering for an ORCID iD or, if you already have one, by signing into your ORCID account , then granting us permission to get your ORCID iD. We do this to ensure that you are correctly identified and securely connecting your ORCID iD.
